I left Pete and Kathe's house, and Pete joined me for breakfast at the Waffle House in Hendersonville, NC. Then I headed west on I-26 to US 25 north and picked up the Blue Ridge Parkway. I rode the parkway to Fancy Gap, VA. The weather was turning and I wanted to be in Woodbridge, VA by dark, so I got on US 52 north to VA 148 to I-77 north. At exit 19 the sky opened up, so I got off that exit and took Coulson Church road east to US 52, pulled into the gas station parking lot and suited up. A small group of bikers huddled under a canopy across the street at an abandoned building. I backtracked to exit 19 and headed north to I-81 north.
Somewhere around Roanoke, VA the sky opened up again, this time so hard that cars were pulling over because of the 50 foot visibility. I slowed down to match the rest of the still moving traffic and rode out of it. Eventually it cleared up, so I pulled over into a rest area and took off the rain suit. I picked up I-66 east to the Prince William Parkway, and met my son Scott at Hooters in Woodbridge, VA, then camped out at the Holiday Inn Express across the street.
