August 2010 Activities

Friday, August 6 - Huron, SD, leaving the Super 8 motel. I rode here from Appleton the first day of my vacation. I got scalped for some T-shirts at Sturgis, and kept on ridng. I got to Dayton, WY late afternoon.

Saturday, August 7 - At Dayton, WY. I just hung out and swilled beer for most of the time.

Sunday, August 8 - I left Dayton, WY and headed up to Burgess Junction, then took the north fork to Lovell. From there I went north to US 212 and took I90 west to Bozeman, MT. Then I took US 191 south to MT 64 west, and up the hill to Big Sky, MT. A windy thunderstorm blew in from the west, so I suited up and did a U-turn back to US 191. Got some gas and waited out the worst of the storm, then headed south and got dinner. Rode to US 20 West at West Yellowstone, ID, and camped out at Riverside Campground in the Targhee National Forest in ID.

Monday, August 9 - From Riverside Campground, ID to Scofield State Park, UT via Jackson, WY and the Cabela's in Provo, UT.

Tuesday, August 10 - From Scofield State Park, UT to Lamar, CO. I rode US 191 south to I50/US50 East, to Grand Junction, CO. Then I took US 50 to Montrose and along the Gunnison river to Monarch Pass, then downhill to Lamar, CO.

Wednesday, August 11 - From Lamar, CO to Texarkana, TX via Dodge City, KS, Joplin, MO and Bentonville, AR.

Thursday, August 12 - From Texarkana, TX/AR to Tallapoosa, GA via TX, AR, LA, MS, and AL. I was not at the top of my game that day, and I was really pushing myself to ride. I probably should have gotten something to eat that morning. I thought I heard a noise similar to the noise the bike made when the inner primary bearing went bad last fall, so I decided to bring it to a shop and have it looked at.

Friday, August 13 - I rode from Exit 5 in GA to Greenville, SC. I dropped off the Ultra and borrowed a Heritage Softail. Then I got a motel room in Spartanburg and took Jeanette Babcock out to dinner.

Saturday, August 14 - Hanging around Spartanburg while the Greenville Harley shop checks out the noise I reported. I took Jeanette out to dinner again. Then I took pictures of the thunderstorm.

Sunday, August 15 - From Spartanburg, SC to Pete and Kathe Steves's house in Ednyville, NC up I-26 to US-64 East.

Monday, August 16 - I rode from Pete and Kathe's house in Ednyville, NC to the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is under construction. I rode it into Virginia and then beat feet to Woodbridge, VA through one hell of a rainstorm near Roanoke.

Tuesday, August 17 - I try for membership in the Iron Butt Association, but I'm not sure I have enough documentation.

Wednesday, August 18 - Back home.
